Sony takes home two TIPA-awards

Sony's digital camera Cyber-shot T1 have just been named "Best Digital Compact Consumer Camera in Europe" by TIPA – Technical Image Press Association.

Their camcorder Sony DSR-PD170 was awarded the title "Europe's Best Professional Camcorder" due to its rare combination of "professional performance" and "consumer price".

Ray Charles is dead at 73

Ray Charles died today at his home in Beverly Hills. For more than 50 years Mr. Charles helped shape popular music into what it is today. During his long career he influenced artists as varied as Elvis Presley, Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel, Aretha Franklin, and many, many more. All in all he won a dozen Grammy awards for his recordings and he toured right up until last year, when hip surgery forced him to cancel a string of dates. According to his publicity agent, the cause of death is reported to be complications of liver disease.

Earlier today Universal announced that the hit sitcom Seinfeld will indeed be released on DVD before the end of this year. The first two (complete) seasons are set to hit stores in late November. All 18 episodes have been digitally remastered and there is going to be plenty of extras featuring interviews and documentaries.

Sony Releases 7.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Sony lanserar nu en kompakt kamera konstruerad för en aktiv vardag och som samtidigt bygger på toppkvalitet i både optik och elektronik. DSC-P150 kan ta bilder med hela 7,2 megapixel – den högsta upplösningen hittills för kameror i den kompakta Cyber-shot-serien. Inbyggt i kamerans aluminiumchassi finns ett 3x Vario-Tessar zoomobjektiv från optiktillverkaren Carl Zeiss.

– Med P150 får våra kunder helt enkelt en perfekt kamera, som på en rad områden fullt ut matchar våra toppmodeller, säger Stefan Andersson, produktchef på Sony.

Bland finesserna märks: Fjärrkontroll för bildvisning på TV, USB 2.0 för snabb överföring av bilderna och PictBridge-stöd, vilket gör det möjligt att ansluta kameran direkt till vissa skrivare utan att behöva gå via en PC. (Ca pris: 5 700 kr inkl. moms)

Canon's new line of printers

Inom kort lanserar Canon en rad nya bläckstråleskrivare och plötsligt ser Apple ut att ha fått konkurrens vad gäller välartad industridesign. Mest aptitretande är modellerna iP4000 och iP3000 i den nya skrivar- och multifunktionsserien PIXMA.

En ny sorts skrivhuvud med en upplösning på 4800 x 1200 och droppvolym på 2 pl ger fotoutskrifter av hög kvalitet. Dessutom är de båda modellerna extremt snabba med utskriftshastigheter upp till 25 resp. 22 sidor per minut. För färgutskrifter gäller 17 resp. 15 sidor/min. Största köpargumentet är nog dock designen - istället för en grå styggelse, går det nu att möblera med skrivaren utan att den sticker i ögonen.

– Den radikalt nya designen visar Canons uppfattning av konsumenternas preferenser för produkter som utmärker sig i både utseende och funktion, säger Magnus Nilsson, produktchef för skrivare och scanners hos Canon Svenska AB.

Bland finesserna märks: PictBridge-stöd för direktanslutning till kompatibla digitalkameror; En omfattande svit programvaror för att skapa t ex fotoalbum; Bläckpatroner där varje färg lagras i en separat utbytbar patron vilket ger ekonomiska fördelar; CD Label Print som möjliggör utskrift direkt på skrivbara CD-R och DVD utan behov av etiketter.

Jazz radio on the Internet

KRML radio relocates to Carmel-by-the-sea and the Eastwood building. The building became famous in the 1970's through Clint Eastwood's directorial debut and starring role as KRML radio host Dave Garver in the thriller "Play Misty for Me".

- KRML has long been a legacy on the Peninsula because of its commitment to a 24-hour broadcast schedule of world-class jazz and blues for the Monterey Bay audience. Now, as we move to the heart of Carmel, we intend to establish a global presence for KRML and Carmel through the power of Internet radio. Soon, live audio will be streaming through KRML's website (www.krmlradio.com) and other Internet portals, says David Kimball, long-time KRML radio personality.

KRML's companion, The Jazz and Blues Company Store and Gallery, will also introduce new merchandise and showcase a "Collectors Corner" featuring rare out-of-print "virgin" vinyl recordings from the vaults of affiliated Black-Hawk Records, plus an expanded selection of thousands of hard-to-find jazz and blues CD's.
